Grand Prize 2010: "LESEAU" Ecole Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique de Yaoundé

Object: addressed to population not having access to a public water distribution network, or suffering of a non-continuous water service due to water cuts. Water storage and purification containers which present a solution regarding health issues, mainly for children under 5 year-old.

After the Prize:
  • Manufacture of a thousand specimens.

  • Volume increased from 16 litres to 25.

  • Hygiene awareness campaign organised in 15 districts for more than 2000 people.

  • Undergoing research in order to improve and complete the device.

Special Prize 2010: Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology - CAWST

Object: training method built around nine major topics, such as water treatment, low-cost sanitation and rainwater harvesting in disadvantaged regions, in order to disseminate ideas and transfer skills.

After the Prize :
  • Setting of water experts and training centers in developping countries: affected perimeter: 1 million people.

  • 200,000 people trained using CAWST-developed training and education materials.
