Access to Essential Services Award 2012: “Mothers’ Clubs Initiative” project in the Savannah region, Northern Togo by the French Red Cross, in partnership with the Togolese Red Cross

Object: This project aims to spread, by focusing on women, the good habits concerning water, hygiene and sanitation at a household scale.

After the Prize:
A meeting between Togolese Mothers’ Club and members of the Chadian Red-Cross as well as members of regionals committees and Togolese Red-Cross has been organized to enable an exchange of experiences between the two national societies.

The duplication of the Chadian project is therefore forecasted and a Togolese delegation will travel to Chad in order to transfer their knowledge and train their Chadian counterparts.

Social Entrepreneurship Award: “Transforming organic solid waste into high quality charcoal briquettes” in Uganda by Green Bio Energy

Object: Improvement in waste treatment in urban communities of Kampala surroundings and incorporation of organic waste into the production process of charcoal briquettes.

After the Prize :
  • Large increase of briquettes’ supply (from 5 tons in June 2012 to almost 30 tons in June 2013).

  • Training of 150 people in the charcoal briquettes production process.

  • Starting production and supply of a briquettes’ complementary product: the high energetic efficiency oven.

  • Reinforcement of the company’staff (from 15 employees in June 2012 to 33 in June 2013).
